Union County Hospital employees mark 10 years of being smoke free

<p class="p1">In March 2006, Union County Hospital in Anna implemented a new Clean the Air health initiative, which was designed to create a tobacco free campus.  </p><p class="p1">The hospital offered smoking cessation programs to staff members and their families to inspire a better health environment for them and the patients.  </p><p class="p1">Several employees experienced success in their efforts to quit smoking.</p><p class="p1">This year, two of the hospital’s employees are marking 10 years of being smoke free.</p><p class="p1">Bernice Pind, the hospital’s business office director, will celebrate her 10-year smoke free anniversary in March. </p><p class="p1">Pete Wories, the director of radiology at the hospital, celebrates his 10-year smoke free anniversary in February.</p><p class="p1">Bernice participated in auricular therapy to help her quit and said she had great success with it almost immediately.  </p><p class="p1">Pete set a goal to reward himself with a fly fishing trip to Canada if he succeeded in quitting.  In June 2007, he was able to take that trip and pay for his best friend to accompany him with all the money he had saved from not smoking.</p><p class="p1">“The hospital congratulates Pete and Bernice and all the employees who continue to be tobacco free,” Union County Hospital director of marketing/community services coordinator Mary Nash-Swink stated. </p><p class="p1">To learn more about the effects of smoking, and for information about quitting, visit UnionCountyHospital.com and click on the “Health Library” or visit the American Cancer Society website at www.cancer.org or the American Heart Association website at www.heart.org.</p>
