Union County students share what Christmas means to them

Third grade students at Union County schools again this year were invited to participate in a special holiday season event sponsored by a local business.

"What Christmas Means to Me" was the theme of the event, which again was sponsored by Rusty's Home Center in Anna.

Students wrote about what Christmas means to them. Winners then were selected from each participating school.

Each winner received a giant Christmas stocking from Rusty's Home Center.

Following are the winning entries:

I would like to tell you what Christmas means to me.

Jesus was born on the 24th of December. Christmas is when lots of familys get together and celebrate. I like giving presents to other people that don't have enough money to buy presents.

I love Jesus. He is God's son. Jesus is very special to me. Jesus is your father too. Jesus is special too because if he did not exist the people would not be in our world.

When people celebrate Christmas you eat and drink stuff. You give hugs and some gifts.

When I give presents to people I don't know that they are glad to get a gift. I feel joy on their face.

Christmas is a very special time for my family and me. It's Jesus' birth day. My parents and grandparents gather together and celebrate. The food is the best!

First, I am going to tell you about Jesus. I want to tell you He died for our sins. He's our savior and Lord and He gave us hope. Christmas is the time that we celebrate His birthday.

Next, I am going to tell you about my parents. They love and care for me. My parents give me shelter and feed me. They take care of me all year long but at Christmas I get special things that I don't get all year long.

Last but NOT least, I am going to tell you about the food at Christmas. Food gives energy and strength but at Christmas it is something special. My grandparents love to cook. At Christmas they always make something tasty. I really hope they make the red velvet cake with vanilla frosting this year for Christmas. It is tasty. It makes me happy.

I hope you enjoyed what Christmas means to me. I hope you have a good Christmas. I hope you get the presents you really wanted and some great food too.

This is what Christmas means to me.

Christmas means spending time with my family and giving to those in need. I love to see my parents opening the gifts my Grandma and I bought.

I love going to my Grandpa's and Grandma's house. We have so much fun opening our other presents.

But I don't care what I get this Christmas. I just want my family to be happy.

I really hope those in need get something, because that would mean the world to me.

I'm going to give away some of the toys to my friend and the other half of my family.

I hope everyone that I know has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Christmas means spending time with my family, celebrating Jesus' birthday, and getting and giving gifts.

Christmas means not getting the gifts but giving, the gifts, to help the kids and people who just got hit with hurricane Sandy. They don't have food, water, a roof above their head, and not even money.

So for Christmas give canned food, water, money, and maybe even clothes!?

So make it the best Christmas for them just as great as the rest of us want. That's what Christmas means to me.
