Visiting Carterville scores win over A-J
Carterville had a big second quarter on its way to a 68-62 win over host Anna-Jonesboro in Southern Illinois River-to-River Mississippi Division Conference high school boys’ basketball action Friday, Jan. 7.
After the Lions controlled the opening tip, they built a 11-4 first quarter lead.
Countering with a 3-pointer by Travis Smith, the Wildcats fought back to trail 13-12 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lions went on a 17-7 run in the second quarter to take a 30-19 lead at the half.
The Wildcats made a 16-8 run in the third quarter to trail 38-35 going into the final period.
The Lions came on for a 30-27 scoring run in the final quarter to hold off A-J.
Brady Wright had 20 points and 6 rebounds to lead A-J. Tylor Duckworth added 14 points and 17 rebounds. Smith added 14 points and 2 rebounds. Cody Livesay had 8 points and Dalton Baker 6.
The Wildcats were 13 of 30 in shot attempts from the floor, 6 of 21 from 3-point range and 18 of 25 from the free throw line.
The Lions were 23 of 36 in shot attempts from the field, 1 of 9 from 3-point range and 19 of 25 from the charity stripe.
A-J, 7-8 and 0-4 in the conference, travels Friday to Du Quoin.
