Weekend death investigated
Union County Sheriff David Livesay announced Monday that his office was conducting an investigation into the death of a rural Jonesboro man which happened over the weekend.
The sheriff said the man’s death occurred Sunday night.
Livesay said deputies responded at approximately 11:30 p.m. Sunday at a residence at 100 State Pond Rd. west of Jonesboro.
Deputies found the body of Jeffery D. Emrick, 58, outside the residence.
“At this time, the death is believed to be accidental, but the investigation is ongoing,” the sheriff said.
The sheriff’s office is conducting the investigation with assistance from the Illinois State Police, the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office, the Union County coroner’s office and the Union County state’s attorney’s office.
