WIBH sponsors successful New Coats, New Hope campaign

WIBH Radio Station in Anna recently sponsored its annual New Coats, New Hope campaign to provide coats for kids in Southern Illinois.

In 2011, in response to the growing number of abused and neglected children in the area, WIBH saw a need that had to be filled.

"Children of abuse and neglect often go without warm clothing in the winter," WIBH sales and promotion manager Shawnna Rhine said.

"This not only affects them physically, but emotionally as well and we just couldn't ignore that."

People from all over Illinois helped to raise over $1,600 in the campaign.

The funds have allowed for the purchase of more than 100 new, warm winter coats for kids living in the lower seven counties of Southern Illinois who are served by The Children's Medical Resource Network, CMRN, and Two Rivers Child Advocacy Center, TRCAC.

"We can't thank everyone enough who supported this effort," Rhine said. She said those involved in the campaign already "are looking forward to next year."

Several businesses from throughout Union County also supported the campaign and helped WIBH get the message to donors.

They included US Bank of Cobden, L&P Carpet, From the Heart Flowers and Gifts, Capaha Bank, Anna Rehab and Nursing, Down Home Do-Dads, Barnett's Custom Jewelers, Richard Cunningham, Michael Bigler, Wayne Brown and Tyler Edmonds.

Postal Pal in Anna also covered the delivery of the coats, which allowed for 100 percent of the donations to go directly towards purchasing the coats.

The coats are being housed at the Children's Medical Resource Network and Two Rivers Child Advocacy Center and are ready for immediate pickup.

To request a coat for a child in need, call CMRN at 833-6488 or TRCAC at 833-7470.
