Wildcats struggle in recent losses

The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School boys’ basketball team has  struggled in two recent losses.

Massac County 80, A-J 29: The visiting Wildcats were able to score just 8 points in the second half in the loss Saturday, Dec. 15.

The Patriots led 19-10 after one quarter and 38-21 at halftime. Massac County led 67-25 heading into the fourth quarter.

“That second half, they came out and put it on us,” A-J coach Mike Chamness said. “We couldn’t throw it in the ocean.”

Colton James scored 9 points to lead the Wildcats. Noah Fuller added 7 points and 2 rebounds. Zach Parr had 4 points and 5 rebounds. Jay Kemp had 3 points and 5 rebounds.

Damian Reed had 2 points and 4 rebounds. Zane DeWitt had 2 points. Tyler Vaughn and Ben McFarland each had 1 point.

Pinckneyville 67, A-J 45: Parr had 15 points and 2 rebounds to lead visiting A-J in the loss Friday, Dec. 14.

“Parr had a nice game,” Chamness said. “We didn’t play that badly, they were just a step quicker than us.”

Vaughn had 8 points and 5 rebounds. Fuller added 6 points and 2 rebounds. James had 5 points.

DeWitt had 4 points and a rebound. Reed had 3 points and 3 rebounds. Kemp had 2 points and 3 rebounds.

Noah Prater had 2 points and a rebound. McFarland had 6 rebounds.

The Panthers led 14-2 after one quarter and 31-15 at halftime. A-J trailed 54-30 heading into the fourth quarter.

A-J fell to 1-7 and is scheduled to play Friday at home against Sparta.
