Writing contest open to high school students
High school students throughout the Shawnee Community College district are invited to participate in a writing contest sponsored by the college.
Union County is in the college district.
Celebrating Young Writers will recognize the literary skills of area high school students in three categories: short fiction, poetry and non-fiction essay.
Original work will be judged by college faculty in two divisions: 9th/10th grade and 11th/12th grade.
The submission deadline is Friday, Feb. 17. There is no entry fee.
Winners will be honored at an awards ceremony and all entrants will be celebrated at a reception which is scheduled Thursday, April 19.
The reception will be in the atrium located on the college's main campus near Ullin.
Divisional winners will receive $100 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place.
