2009 Union County Fair opens this weekend

The 2009 edition of the Union County Fair gets underway this week in Anna.

The fair once again will be at the Anna City Park.

Here's a look at the schedule of events for this year's fair:

Friday, Aug. 21

9 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Open show registration at the fair office at the park. Participants are asked to not bring their exhibits at this time. 

Saturday, Aug. 22

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Junior exhibit registration. Participants are asked to bring their exhibit items with them.

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Open show registration at the fair office. Participants are asked to not bring their exhibits at this time.

9 a.m. FFA livestock show, junior show arena.

1 p.m. Junior horse show, horse arena.

1 p.m. Garden tractor pull, in front of the Henry Don Dillow Grandstand.

5 p.m. Judging for junior classes N and P and  ages 5-8 in the exhibit hall.

6 p.m. Gaited and western horse show in front of the grandstand. No admission charged.

Sunday, Aug. 23

Noon to 6 p.m. Union County Fair car show.

2:15 p.m. Pet parade registration, junior show arena

3 p.m. Pet parade, junior show arena.

4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Junior exhibit area open, exhibit hall.

5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Community worship service, grandstand.

7:30 p.m. Union County Fair pageant. General admission tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children.

Monday, Aug. 24

9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Open registration, fair office. Bring exhibit items. Exhibit building closes at 7 p.m.

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Junior livestock registration, fair office.

4 p.m. Junior tractor operators contest, infield near grandstand.

4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Junior exhibits in exhibit building open.

5 p.m. Sale cattle weigh-in.

6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Midway carnival open. Armbands $15 for adults, $13 for children.

7 p.m. Required meeting for all junior livestock exhibitors in barn area. 

7 p.m. State Pond Speedway presents Go Kart Racing in front of the grandstand.  General admission tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children.

Tuesday, Aug. 25

8 a.m. Open class, livestock and exhibit judging.

9 a.m. 4-H livestock show, junior show arena.

10 a.m. Mule/donkey halter classes, heavy horse and mule barn.

1 p.m. Draft horse show  heavy horse and mule barn.

3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Exhibit building open.

6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Midway carnival open. Armbands $15 for adults, $13 for children.

7:30 p.m. Championship rodeo in front of the grandstand.  General admission tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children.

Wednesday, Aug. 26

9 a.m. Junior swine and sheep judging, junior show arena.

9 a.m. Open dairy judging.

1 p.m. Junior livestock beef judging, junior show arena.

2 p.m. Harness racing and mule/pony racing. Free grandstand admission.

3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Exhibit building open.

6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Midway carnival open. Armbands $15 for adults and $13 for children.

7:30 p.m. Tractor pull in front of the grandstand. General admission tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children. 

Thursday, Aug. 27

Veterans' Day

All veterans showing veteran’s organization membership cards or wearing a veteran’s organization cap will be admitted free to the fair.

Children’s Day

Ride discounts will be offered from 5 p.m. until closing time.

Drawings for four bicycles are planned at 9 p.m.

Children will be admitted free to the fair.

2 p.m. Harness racing and mule/pony racing. Free grandstand admission.

3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Exhibit building open.

6 p.m. Junior livestock auction, junior show arena.

7:30 p.m. "Union County’s Got Talent" in front of grandstand.  General admission tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children.

Friday, Aug. 28

2 p.m. Harness racing and mule/pony racing. Free grandstand admission.

3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Exhibit building open.

6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Midway carnival open. Armbands $15 for adults, $13 for children.

7 p.m. Demolition derby.  General admission tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children.

Saturday, Aug. 29

Mule Day

11 a.m. Entries for Mule Day, in front of the grandstand.

Noon. Mule jump, in front of the grandstand.

1:30 p.m. Mule/donkey show, in front of the grandstand.

3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Exhibit building open.

6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Midway carnival open. Armbands $15 for adults, $13 for children.

7 p.m. Demolition derby, in front of the Grandstand.  General admission tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children.

Sunday, Aug. 30

1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Exhibits to be claimed in the exhibit building.
