4 to 5 inches of rain recorded in area

Weeks of dry weather in the Union County area came to an end during the past week.

Rainfall amounts reported to be in the range of 4 to 5 inches were recorded in the area during the period which included the Thanksgiving Day holiday on Thursday, Nov. 25.

Official weather observer Dana Cross recorded 3.98 inches of rain in Anna over the period from Tuesday, Nov. 23, through Monday, Nov. 29.

Precipitation in Anna included:

1.5 of an inch Nov. 23. 1.40 inches Nov. 24. 1 inch on Nov. 25 and again on Nov. 26. .43 of an inch Nov. 29.

The National Weather Service office at Paducah reported that unofficial rainfall accumulations in the region during the period from 7 a.m. Monday, Nov. 22, to 7 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, included:

3.32 inches in Cape Girardeau. 3.69 inches in Carbondale. 2.37 inches in Paducah. 2.72 inches in Cairo. 4.25 inches in Mt. Vernon.

Local authorities reported that the heavy rain did not cause any major problems. Conditions had been extremely dry for so long that the rain which fell was easily absorbed into the ground.

The past week's precipitation also included some sleet and very light snow.
