5 inches of snow measured in county

<p class="p1">After days of gray skies, wintry precipitation and cold temperatures, a big warm up was in the forecast for Union County.</p><p class="p1">The National Weather Service office in Paducah is calling for sunshine and high temperatures in the 50s and 60s on Thursday, today, Friday and Saturday. The high on Friday is forecast to be near 67 degrees.</p><p class="p1">At press time Tuesday afternoon, large snowflakes were falling in Anna.</p><p class="p1">The spring-like temperatures will come after 5 inches of snow fell in Union County during the period from Feb. 9 through Feb. 15.</p><p class="p1">Precipitation during the period also included freezing rain, sleet and rain. Dense fog was seen Monday and Tuesday of this week.</p><p class="p1">Snow which was recorded during the period included:</p><p class="p1">Half an inch (.02 of an inch of melted precipitation) on Feb. 9.</p><p class="p1">Half an inch (.03 of an inch of melted precipitation) on Feb. 10.</p><p class="p1">One inch of snow (.06 of an inch of melted precipitation) on Feb. 12.</p><p class="p1">Three inches of snow (.38 of an inch of melted precipitation) on Feb. 14.</p><p class="p1">Temperatures during the period ranged from a high of 45 degrees to a low of 14.</p><p class="p1">The frozen precipitation did not cause many problems in terms of traffic accidents on local streets, roads and highways.</p><p class="p1">The Union County Sheriff's Office in Jonesboro reported that several vehicles slid off the road and into ditches during Sunday's heavy snow. <p class="p1">Motorists found themselves driving through heavy snow last Sunday morning. The picture was taken at about 9:45 a.m. Sunday in downtown Cobden. Heavy snow was falling at the time. </p>
