Accident early Sunday claims life of area woman
A single-vehicle traffic accident early Sunday morning in Union County claimed the life of a Dongola woman.
The woman was standing in the roadway when she was struck by a car, Union County Sheriff David Livesay said.
The victim was identified as Carole Brown, 65, of Dongola.
The accident happened at about 12:50 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, at 6615 U.S. Highway 51S, just north of Dongola.
Mrs. Brown was struck by a passenger car which was traveling south along U.S. Highway 51S. The car was driven by a 20-year-old man from Chicago Heights.
The driver of the car and another person in the vehicle were not injured.
The sheriff reported that Mrs. Brown apparently left her residence at 6615 U.S. Highway 51S, became disoriented and was standing on the highway when the accident happened.
Mrs. Brown was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by the Union County coroner’s office.
The sheriff said no tickets were issued as a result of the accident.
