Anna City Council Approves Paving Project
Resolutions for work to be done in conjunction with a major paving project were approved by the Anna City Council Tuesday.
The action came at Tuesday night's regular council meeting at Anna City Hall.
Parking spaces on South Main Street will be resurfaced this summer at the same time Illinois Route 146 is repaved from its intersection with new Highway 51 on Anna's east side to the Jonesboro Square.
City administrator Steve Guined explained that the parking spaces on both sides of the street are not a part of the highway and would not be resurfaced without city action.
The work by the Illinois Department of Transportation, IDOT, will cost the city $6,000 to be paid from its motor fuel tax fund.
The council also discussed remarking crosswalks on and near South Main Street.
In other business, Guined reported that a bridge on Limekiln Road has been permanently closed due to safety issues following an inspection by IDOT. Cost to repair the bridge is estimated at $50,000 to $100,000.
Surveying is underway at the Anna Business Park for a tract being considered for a new facility for Jo-Co Pools, Guined said.
A report was given to the council on the proposed use of the Anna City Park for a Trappers' Association event which would bring 600 to 1,200 people to Anna for weekend activities in late spring or early summer.
Approval was given to a running event planned April 4 for Victims Rights Awareness and a donation of $500 for the Safe Celebration.
The council accepted the resignation of Todd Mowery and voted to post the position.
Guined reported that city workers are removing damaged awnings on South Main Street. The work is being done in cooperation with property owners.
