Anna plans ‘Curb Day’

Plans are moving forward to have a "Curb Day" event in Anna.

The event was discussed at this week's regular meeting of the Anna City Council.

The meeting was Tuesday evening at Anna City Hall.

City council member Cindy Swope has been working on having a Curb Day in Anna.

Swope said she learned about Curb Day by reading an article in a newspaper.

Curb Day was originated by a New York resident as a way to reduce the number of items going into landfills. The first Curb Day was in May.

The idea behind Curb Day is that people can put valuable items they no longer need on the curb so others can pick them up.

The date for Anna's first Curb Day has not been finalized, but the event could take place sometime this summer.

In other business at Tuesday's meeting:

The council approved a resolution to accept bids for trash pickup service.

A building permit was approved for construction of a classroom at Fellowship House at 800 N. Main St.
