Another round of winter weather for area More than a foot of snow recorded so far this season

Another winter storm brought more snow and cold to the Union County area during the past week.

So far this winter, the area has received more than a foot of snow; 13 inches, had been recorded through this week. Snow in varying amounts has been on the ground in some areas for weeks.

The website for the National Weather Service, NWS, forecast office in Paducah reported that a strong disturbance in the upper levels of the atmosphere moved southeast across Missouri on Valentine's Day (Sunday, Feb. 14), then turned east across the Lower Ohio Valley during the night.

Heavy snow occurred along and north of the track of this system.

Gusty winds and heavy snow during the late night hours of Feb. 14 tapered off during the morning of Monday, Feb. 15.

To the south, accumulations were mainly an inch or two across much of Western Kentucky and far Southern Illinois.

An inch of snow was measured in Anna.

However, roads that were wet from light rain and drizzle on Valentine's Day froze solid in those areas.

The ice under the snow was more of a travel concern than the snow itself.

Much of Southeast Missouri escaped the brunt of the storm, receiving just a coating of snow.

Sunday night's snow fall made the going slow for motorists on Monday morning.

Many people did not have to venture out on Monday, which was the Presidents' Day holiday. Schools were closed for the holiday and there was no regular mail delivery.

Precipitation for the past two weeks in Anna included:

.76 of an inch Feb. 5. 1 inch of snow and .22 of an inch of melted precipitation Feb. 6.

A trace of snow/precipitation Feb. 8. 1.75 inches of snow and .16 of an inch of melted precipitation Feb. 9.

A trace of precipitation Feb. 14. 1 inch of snow and .09 of an inch of melted precipitation Feb. 15. A trace of snow and .01 of an inch of melted precipitation Feb. 16.
