Autumn Senior Expo set to debut in Vienna

In recognition of the needs of a growing senior population, a number of local organizations and businesses are partnering to address those needs by sharing resources with individuals and caregivers in the southernmost counties of Illinois.

The free, come-and-go event, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 8 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Vienna.

Titled “Autumn Senior Expo,” organizers said the hope is that the event will be the first of a series of annual events.

“Our goal is to create a yearly event to help our seniors and caregivers become more aware of resources available to them,” said Samantha Hazel, RN assessment coordinator for Autumn Ridge Supportive Living Facility, who has been heavily involved in planning the expo.

“Just as we do on a daily basis at Autumn Ridge, we hope to assist our elderly in maintaining their independence, dignity and safety for as long as possible.”

Also assisting with initial planning were staff of Family Counseling Center Inc. and the Egyptian Area Agency on Aging.

Presenters on topics of interest are being provided by Christian Covenant Church, Alzheimer’s Association, Shawnee Alliance, Bode Drug and SIH.

In addition to presenters, a number of free services will be provided, including lunch, balance and blood pressure checks, mental health screenings, lifestyle needs assessments, residential assessments, essential oil demonstrations, eye glass adjustments, walker cleanings and pulse oxygen readings.

Over 40 vendors are scheduled to be present. Door prizes will be drawn every hour. Flu shots will be available throughout the day.
