Carrying on a dream

To the editor,

The village of East Cape recently lost a well known citizen and community leader in David Pearce, son of Bud and Bobbie Pearce.

As most people know, Bud Pearce formed East Cape and it was incorporated in 1975.

David was a trustee on the village board and at one time was mayor pro tem under former Mayor Joe Aden.

Bud and David were owners of the Purple Crackle for many years and helped many people in the East Cape community in their time of need. They always went that extra mile to help people.

I served on the village board as a trustee and mayor for 34 years and had the pleasure and honor of working with Bud and David through the years of growth of East Cape.

They were leaders and wanted what was best for East Cape, as I did.

Bud and David were well known for their belief in taking care of local citizens, which they did for many years.

Bud passed away in 1995 (his birthday is the same as Stan “The Man” Musial) and David in 2010, leaving a severe leadership void in East Cape.

I will miss them very much, as they were good friends and leaders, but what I miss the most is the daily and personal contact I had with them through the years. They were winners and champions in my book.

I will work hard and become an advocate for East Cape and carry on their dream.

Signed, Joe Aden, East Cape Girardeau
