Churches focus on safety concerns

In the aftermath of Monday's violent attack at the First Baptist Church in Anna, staff members at other local churches were paying closer attention to safety and security concerns, as were local schools and others.

Anna Heights Baptist Church instituted a lockdown.

Similar action was taken at the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Anna, First Baptist Church in Jonesboro, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anna, First Baptist Church in Cobden and the United Methodist Church in Cobden and the Clear Creek Baptist Association office in east Anna.

Access is still available at each of the churches, and it was uncertain whether the lockdowns would remain permanent.

Anna School District 37 was instituting a lockdown and students were not being allowed to go outside to play.

Anna Junior High/Davie School is about a block away from First Baptist Church in Anna.

Several other local schools have already instituted safety and security measures.
