Clara J. Smithey

Clara J. Smithey, 89, of Thebes, died at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau.

Mrs. Smithey was born Aug. 9, 1921, in Thebes, the daughter of Albert Dover and Mary (Perry) Dover.

Mrs. Smithey was a loving wife and mother and of the Baptist faith.

She was wed to Virgil Smithey on March 2, 1937, in Mounds.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter and a son.

Survivors include four sons, Royal Smithey of Sutherlin, Ore., Charles Smithey of Olive Branch, Dale Smithey of Beloit and Paul Smithey of Wyona, Okla.; five daughters, Marilyn Mason of Harvard, Janice Tatum of Tamms, Doris Clark of Olive Branch, Cathy Johnson of Cape Girardeau and Alberta Knorr of Shirland; one sister, Mabel Forehand of McClure; 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Clara J. Smithey were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms with the Rev. Gene Hart officiating. Interment was in the Sims Cemetery in rural Elco.

Jones Funeral Home in Tamms was in charge of arrangements.
