Cobden board meets March 1

A wide range of topics were on the agenda at last week’s regular meeting of the Cobden Village Board of Trustees.

The meeting was Monday  night, March 1, at Cobden Village Hall.

<strong>Village Logo Contest</strong>

Rules and an entry form for a logo contest for the village were reviewed and accepted by the board.

The contest is for the general public. The deadline for entries is 5 p.m. on May 14.

The prize for the logo accepted by the village will be $100.

Designs which are submitted will be reviewed and selected by the village board.

<strong>Scholarship Committee</strong>

The village’s scholarship committee met just prior to the board of trustees meeting on March 1.

Funds for a scholarship were made available by Dale Millis Auction Service, which held a benefit consignment auction last year. Millis donated $700 to the village to establish the scholarship.

Two, $500 scholarships will be available after the trustees voted to increase the amount allocated by the village for the scholarship program from $250 to $300.

The scholarships will be designated as the R.G. Williams Business Scholarship and the Village of Cobden-Dale Millis Auction Service Scholarship.

Students have until May 1 to apply for the scholarships. Information is available at Cobden Village Hall.

<strong>Memorial Day</strong>

The village plans to conduct Memorial Day services again this year. The services will take place at the chapel at the Cobden Cemetery.

Village officials will be working on plans for the service.

<strong>Mexican Cultural Event</strong>

Plans are being made for a Mexican cultural event in Cobden. The event is planned Sunday, June 20. Sponsors of the event are scheduled to attend the village board’s March 15 meeting.

<strong>Litter Clean-Up</strong>

A village litter clean-up day is being planned for April 10 in Cobden.

<strong>Fluoridation Award</strong>

The village’s water system again has been recognized and commended by  the Illinois Department of Public Health for maintaining perfect compliance for 12 consecutive months in accordance with the state’s fluoridation law.

<strong>Natural Gas</strong>

The village board voted to enter into a natural gas long-term supply agreement with the Interstate Municipal Gas Agency.
