Cobden girls improve to 10-0 with victory
Taylor Orsburn scored 15 points to boost Cobden to a 41-37 win over Carterville in opening-round action of the Herrin holiday high school girls’ basketball Hoops tournament Saturday, Dec. 26.
Ana Duda added 13 points for the Appleknockers. Kayla Quertermous chipped in 6 points, Rebekah Russell 3 and Katelyn Wiggs 2.
The Appleknockers trailed at every quarter break until coming back in the final quarter for the win.
The Lady Lions led 17-13 after one quarter and 24-18 at the half. Carterville led 29-25 going into the final period.
Cobden made a 16-8 surge in the final stanza to pull out the win.
Cobden, which improved to 10-0, was scheduled to play Herrin, 7-2; Johnston City; Pinckneyville, 10-2; and Vienna, 9-4; earlier this week in tourney action.
