Cobden High School is planning to leave the South Egyptian Conference, SEC.
The Cobden Unit School District 17 Board of Education unanimously approved the move this week.
A vote on the move was taken at Monday night’s regular meeting of the school board.
The move is effective in 2012-2013. Cobden will become an independent in high school sports.
Cobden follows Goreville and Vienna in leaving the SEC.
Meridian, Egyptian, Century, Shawnee, Joppa and Dongola remain as members of the conference.
Cobden was one of the original members of the conference, which was formed in the 1960s.
