Cobden scores at buzzer for tournament victory
Alex Sweitzer scored at the buzzer to lift Cobden to a 64-63 win over Wayne City for third place at the Christopher High School boys' basketball Turkey Tournament Saturday, Nov. 28.
Sweitzer scored on a put-back of Robby Lehr’s shot.
Lehr led Cobden’s effort with 29 points. Steve Draper added 12 points, Bo Gearhart 9, Allan Brumleve 8 and Sweitzer 6.
The Appleknockers led 17-16 after one quarter butfell behind 31-26 at the half.
Cobden trailed 47-39 going into the final quarter. The Appleknockers made a 25-16 run in the final quarter to eke out the win.
Ziegler-Royalton 51, Cobden 50: The Appleknockers trailed at every quarter break before losing Wednesday, Nov. 25.
Cobden trailed 13-9 after one quarter and 21-16 at the half.
The Tornadoes were ahead 37-28 going into the final frame. The Appleknockers made a 22-14 run in the final quarter.
Sweitzer led the way with 17 points. Lehr added 14 points, Gearhart 9, Draper 8 and Brumleve 2.
“We competed pretty well in the tournament,” Cobden coach Jeff Shillinger said. “The kids never gave up.”
Cobden, 2-1, is scheduled to play Friday at Meridian.
