Cobden Village Board has busy agenda at May 4 regular meeting
The Cobden Village Board of Trustees covered a wide range of business at a regular meeting held last week.
The meeting was Monday night, May 4, at Cobden Village Hall.
Highlights from minutes of the meeting follow:
Wes Lyerla vacated the seat of village president and gave his keys to newly elected village president Molly Beckley. Beckley’s oath of office was administered at an April 20 village board meeting.
The oath of office was administered to village clerk Karen M. Winzenburger by village president Beckley.
Beckley’s appointment of Alma Gomez to the office of village trustee was approved by a consent vote of the village board.
Beckley’s appointment of Frances Swedlund to the post of village trustee was approved by a consent vote of the board.
Trustee Jack Martell was thanked for his years of service to the community as a village trustee.
The mayor’s appointments to village board committees was approved. Appointments follow, by committee:
Finance: Patrick Brumleve, chairperson; Frances Swedlund.
Streets and sidewalks: Alan Eddington, chairperson; David Stewart.
Utilities: Dennis Maze, chairperson; Alan Eddington.
Public safety: Alma Gomez, chairperson; Frances Swedlund.
Cemetery: Patrick Brumleve, chairperson; Dennis Maze.
Park and beautification: David Stewart, chairperson; Alma Gomez.
The mayor’s reappointments of the following persons was approved by consent votes of the board:
Lou A. Hartline as village treasurer. David Isom as police chief. Jack E. Hankla as fire chief. H. Wesley Wilkins as village attorney. Greg Wilson as ESDA coordinator.
Homer Forby and Blayne Smith to the cemetery board of managers. Rich Cooper and John Middleton to the plan commission.
In other business, the trustees approved revisions to the village’s employee handbook.
The trustees discussed the enforcement of the village’s nuisance, weed, garbage and debris policies. Board members agreed that the ordinances need to be enforced.
Trustee Stewart presented a proposal for a Cobden Summer Fun Day in the downtown park on June 20.
Stewart reported on plans which are being made for a Memorial Day service at the Cobden Cemetery.
