County board hears latest update on courthouse project

The latest update on construction of Union County's new courthouse was presented last Friday morning.

The update was given at Friday morning's regular meeting of the Union County Board of Commissioners.

The meeting was at the community center in Jonesboro.

Courthouse construction project manager Mike Smith reported that since Feb. 17:

On level 1, the small, only remaining floor was poured.

A cable trough was assembled and installed in the dispatch floor. The trough has removable lid sections that allow for easy installation or removal of cables. The trough is 24 inches wide by 6 inches deep and is T-shaped and covers about 22 feet in both legs of the T trough configuration.

With the trough installed, the final floor pour was made Feb. 28. This essentially completed the floor at the lower level.

Mays Construction continued to set the last delivered steel and started the assembly of level 2 floor beams/floor pans and roof beams and pans and the cupola tower.

Footings to the south of the basement wall were completed. The final section of the walls was poured on Feb. 28.

Slab on grade forms have been assembled for the lab on grade floor pour.

Electrical and plumbing systems were being installed at the slab-on grade area scheduled for a March 5 pour.

Details for communications, camera, recording, security systems, data and phones have been specified and continue to be refined.

Final details are being determined for doors, keying systems and hardware.

Masonry work in the lower level has been completed for 40 percent of the rooms. Rough-ins for plumbing and electrical work are being coordinated among the trades.

Lower level above grade services are being installed by the trades at the ceiling and I-beam level.

The radio tower and dispatch consoles and dispatch furniture have been put out for bid. Openings are planned in mid-March.

Exterior masonry at the lower level at the east, north and west will continue.

More of the steel skeleton will take shape. Plans for the L2 were scheduled to begin March 5.

Level 2 deck pouring in three sections is planned March 12, 13 and 14, weather permitting.

Miller Drywall was scheduled to begin steel stud installation on level 1 this week.

Shop drawings for the cupola fabrication are due in March.
