Dongola Thanksgiving service planned

A community Thanks-giving service is planned Sunday, Nov. 21, in Dongola.

The service will be at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Dongola.

Participating Dongola area churches rotate hosting the community service, which is held each year on the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

The participating churches are First Baptist of Dongola, Bethany Baptist, Friendship Baptist, First Lutheran of Dongola, Mt. Olive Baptist, Maple Grove Baptist, Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian, St. John's Lutheran Church and Cypress Grove MB Church.

The program for Sunday night's service follows:

Opening hymn: "This is the Day."

Welcome by the host pastor: Pastor Paul Sadler, First Baptist Church.

Invocation: Sharon Resch, Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church.

Hymn: "Count Your Blessings."

Responsive reading: Dale Taake, First Lutheran Church.

Special music: Amy Taake, First Lutheran Church.

Old Testament lesson: Pastor Tim Heinecke, Dongola Lutheran Parish.

Praise and worship music: Cypress Grove MB choir, Cypress Grove MB Church.

New Testament lesson: Pastor Victor Duckworth, Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

Offertory prayer: Pastor Victor Duckworth.

Offertory music: Maple Grove choir, Maple Grove Baptist Church.

Gospel lesson: Bethany Baptist Church.

Special music: First Baptist Church choir, First Baptist Church.

Message by host pastor: Pastor Paul Sadler.

Closing hymn: "Give Thanks."

Benediction: Ron Dillow, St. John's Lutheran Church.

Postlude: Cynthia Kern and Alesia Patterson.

The pianists and organists for the service will be Cynthia Kern and Alesia Patterson from the First Baptist Church.

Kyle Kern from the First Baptist Church will be song leader.

The offering collected at the service will go to Bethany Village in Anna.

A committee works on planning the service. Members of the committee for next year include:
