Ethel Mae Halstead
Ethel Mae Halstead, 91, of Carterville, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville with the Rev. Charles Epperly and Pastor Mike Bogard officiating. Burial was in Little Flock Cemetery in Carterville.
Memorials can be made to Shawnee Christian Nursing Center, Activities Department, 1901 N. 13th St., Herrin, Ill.
Mrs. Halstead was born on June 18, 1918, in Anna, the daughter of Joseph and Minnie Corzine Bridges.
She married Paul “Skin” Halstead on Feb. 6, 1936, in Harrisburg. He preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 1979.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and Orval Bogard and Sally and Gary McCluskey, all of Carterville; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim “Skin” and Kathy Halstead of Carterville; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Pastor Mike and Marlene Bogard of Newton, Kan., Linda Lobos of St. Charles, Mo., Mac and Charlotte McCluskey of Virden, Eric McCluskey of Carterville, Kim and Mike Monje of Carterville, Jim and Cassidy Halstead of Creal Springs, Michele Baxter of Carterville, Kevin Duncan of Herrin, Troy and Carrie Duncan of Hurst, Brent and Sonji Duncan of Germany, Mindy and Jim Musumeci of Carbondale, and Chris and Lisa Moak of Orlando, Fla.; 28 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, the Rev. Gary Lee Halstead; three brothers; and three sisters.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Nazarene Church in Herrin and also attended the Crainville Baptist Church in Crainville.
She liked working crossword puzzles and writing poetry.
