Facing facts, addressing issues

To the editor,

It really disappoints me when, supposedly intelligent critics, blame the Tea Party for any of our countries woes or any other problems arising from our national deficit/debt.  As I see it, what they refer to as the Tea Party, is just the tip of an iceberg. 

The tip of this iceberg is just the visible part of a movement that many of us have been supporting for decades. 

In the 1980s, we were referred to as the silent majority, in the 1990s many of us believed and voted for Ross Perot. 

The truth is that many of us feel that for too many years, we were left with only the choice of "the lesser of two evils."

Too many pundits want to blame one party or the other and now the Tea Party. 

The fact of the matter is that both the Republicans and the Democrats are to blame and the Tea Party are the only ones willing to face the facts and address the issues. 

When the government has to borrow about two of every five dollars it spends and has put every one of us about $50K in debt, how can anyone realistically blame any increase of interest rates or failure to meet interest payment on those who are trying to make the government more accountable?

What responsible financial institution would consider loaning anymore money to anyone who was already in debt, nearly eight times their annual income, and has no plans or intentions to repay said debt?

It would be like you or I earning $50K a year, owing $400K, going to a bank asking to borrow more money because we were spending $80K per year. 

Anyone who doesn't realize that there is an enormous amount of waste, fraud, corruption, and duplicity in Washington must live in a vacuum.  How many politicians sent to Washington aren't millionaires within a few years?  

I find it unconscionable for anyone to even suggest that our soldiers and seniors would not receive their pay and Social Security checks, and I believe it would be criminal for the executive branch of our government (the president) fail or even delay the payment to same.

Any intelligent responsible tax paying citizen who doesn't see the need for a fundamental change in our government is either lying to themselves or being lied to by someone they trust. 

Too many of those whom we have entrusted the welfare of our country have sold us out for a lucrative career, averice and or elitism. 

It really becomes apparent when they would rather attempt to pacify us with some half-fast promises to try to reduce the ever increasing rate of spending, rather than admit their failures and address the real need for fiscal reform.
