Former Wildcat HilemanLeads Baylor To Victory
Former Anna-Jonesboro Community High School standout Lucas Hileman slapped a bases-loaded walk-off single through a drawn-in infield with no outs in the bottom of the 10th as No. 8 Baylor defeated Pacific 5-4 in Sunday’s A series finale at Baylor Ballpark in Waco, Texas.
With the win, the Bears took the series two games to one.
It marked the second time in three days that a Baylor (2-1) freshman delivered a bases-loaded, walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth.
Redshirt freshman Dan Evatt accomplished the feat in Friday night’s season opener.
This time, it was the true-freshman Hileman who played the role of hero.
After pinch running in the eighth, Hileman remained in the game in center field.
The game-winning hit came in his first career at bat and came against a five-man infield as Pacific (1-2) placed center fielder Brett Christopher just in front of the second-base bag.
Still, Hileman found a hole on the right-side of the infield, lining a 1-0 Andrew Mintun offering past a diving second baseman J.B. Brown.
Baylor led 4-1 entering the ninth, but Pacific tied the game with four consecutive hits and a sacrifice fly.
