Free tax clinic set

<p class="p1">"Save the Fee: File for Free" is the slogan for the Center for Economic Progress’ free tax clinics which are being held throughout the State of Illinois.  </p><p class="p1">The service is designed to assist families with an annual income less than $50,000 and individuals with incomes less than $25,000.  </p><p class="p1">Filing is done electronically and the returns are completed by trained tax preparers.  </p><p class="p1">A one-day event is scheduled Sunday, Feb. 8, at Shawnee Development Council's administrative office, which is located at 530 W. Washington in Karnak.  </p><p class="p1">The service is scheduled to be offered from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.  </p><p class="p1">Those who want to utilize the service are advised that the items they will need to bring include all W-2s, 1099s, Social Security cards or Taxpayer Identification Numbers for all family members, a valid photo ID, a copy of last year’s return, a bank account number and routing number to direct deposit a refund, a property tax bill, the amount spent on college expenses, proof of health insurance coverage or a certificate of exemption.  </p><p class="p1">Those who plan to attend are advised to allow at least two hours for tax preparation. </p>
