Fuel Prices Hurt Economy

To the editor,

I am very concerned about the economy of our country.

It seems as if most things were going well until the gasoline, diesel and home heating fuel prices raised within the past few years.

Most of us were doing well, paying our bills and living a comfortable life until the fuel prices were elevated.

These higher prices take away the extra money we have for things such as eating out, buying clothing, taking vacation trips, and just being able to buy something extra we want or need.

Some people are forced to charge purchases such as food, gasoline and clothing to their credit cards.

Even though the fuel prices are down somewhat now, it is difficult to get these credit card balances paid down because of the inflated prices of our everyday needs.

After buying gasoline to get to work and back and making a vehicle payment, paying insurance premiums, buying food and clothing, some people fall short of having enough to make their mortgage payments. It’s a matter of priorities.

I think our government should be working to get the fuel prices lowered and to keep them low and the economy would see a tremendous move toward recovery.

I have not heard any of our representatives in Washington admit that this issue could be contributing to our economic problems.

Signed, Larry G. Vaughn, Olive Branch
