Harley Frank Venus
Frank Venus, 86, formerly of Marion, died at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at Franklin Hospital in Benton.
He was born on July 13, 1923, in Creal Springs, the son of Vernie Frank and Rhoda M. Gilley Venus.
He married Geraldine Edwards on Sept. 4, 1946, in West City. She preceded him in death on May 5, 1996.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the World War II Victory Medal.
He was a member of the Apostolic House of Worship in Marion for many years.
He owned the Venus Farm Implement Business of Anna for many years and was in sales most of his life.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Darrell W. and Lora Venus of Energy; a granddaughter, Evangeline Venus of Herrin; two grandsons, Darren Venus and his wife Danielle of Herrin and Justin Venus of Energy; two great-grandsons, Grant and Grayson Venus of Herrin; a sister, Jean Barham of Gainesville, Ga.; a niece Crevolyn Wiley and her husband, Darrell of Gainesville, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Geraldine Venus.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Schierbaum and Rev. Terry Griffith officiated.
Interment followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion.
Military honors were accorded at the graveside by members of the VFW Heyde-Pillow Post No. 1301, American Legion Post No. 147 and the Illinois National Guard, all of Marion.
Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home in Marion was in charge of arrangements.
