Helping hands

The Shawnee Development Council Inc. plans to continue a tradition this weekend – the agency plans to again host a one-day, free income tax preparation program Sunday at its administrative office in Karnak.

Shawnee Development Council has offered the program for several years to assist low-income families and individuals in the area. Trained tax preparers will be present to help area residents with the preparation of their 2010 state and federal  returns.

We commend Shawnee Development Council for continuing to offer this special program to the people of our area.

<strong>Special folks</strong>

This week, we join family and friends in extending congratulations to two very special Union County residents: Clara Menees and Cotton Hartline.

Clara Menees celebrated her 106th birthday on Jan. 19. Cotton Hartline's 100th birthday was Jan. 28.

By reaching the century mark, Clara and Cotton have lived extraordinary lives. We congratulate them. We are also grateful that they are a part of the Union County family.
