Holiday art exhibit reception set in Cobden

anthill gallery and vintage curiosities, in conjunction with The Yellow Moon Cafe, plans to present the second annual “Off the Wall” holiday group artist exhibition in downtown Cobden.

The public is invited to attend an artist appreciation reception scheduled at both Cobden locations on Saturday, Nov. 20. 

Free refreshments will be served at anthill gallery from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This year’s exhibition represents nearly twice as many Southern Illinois artists as last year.

Among the varied works by 50 area artists are original paintings in oil, acrylic, watercolor and gouache, as well as natural sand and minerals.

Digital and film photography is exhibited by five different art photographers.

Mixed media, collage and fiber works of art are also included.

There are fine crafts representing functional and sculptural ceramics, stained glass, lathe turned wood bowls and pens, wood benches and a constructed wine hutch, and wrought iron home accessories including lamps with blown glass shades.

A wide range of local jewelers and fiber artists have produced wearable art and fashion accessories.

A number of the participating local artists live in Union, Jackson, Johnson, Williamson, and Franklin counties and have earned national distinction with their art. Many are members of Illinois’ State Artisan Program.

The exhibition can be viewed Thursdays through Sundays at anthill gallery through Dec. 19.

The larger 2-D works of art in the exhibition are installed at the Yellow Moon Cafe, which is open Tuesdays through Saturdays in Cobden.

anthill gallery is located at 102 N. Front St. Yellow Moon Cafe is located at 110 N. Front St. in the Village of Cobden. 

The holiday exhibition also will be one of the many featured events in Cobden’s second annual Christmas in the Village Celebration, which is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 4, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
