Howard ‘Lynn’ Day
Funeral services for Howard “Lynn” Day, 79, of Paducah, were at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16, at Milner and Orr Funeral Home in Paducah with the Rev. Louis Brinker officiating.
Burial with military honors followed in the Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Pulaski County.
Mr. Day died at 10:35 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.
Born in Ullin, Mr. Day was an active member of the Twelve Oaks Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and member of various committees. He served the church for 25 years as treasurer. Mr. Day was also a Gideon.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, having served in the 174th Battalion which came under heavy fire behind enemy lines and lost contact with American units for five days. Mr. Day was wounded as the result of this combat and was one of the few survivors. His decorations included the Combat Infantryman Badge.
Mr. Day retired from USEC, where he worked as an electrical operator and supervisor.
Mr. Day is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan Hileman Day. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Wayne A. and Patricia Day of Jackson, Tenn. Survivors also include two grandchildren, Bryan A. Day and Mary Kathryn Day, both of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John J.B. Day and Albert E. Day Jr. His parents were Albert E. and Lois Bankson Day Sr.
