Howard Franklin Hubbs

Howard Franklin Hubbs, 73, of Pekin, and formerly of Union County, died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Pekin Hospital.

He was born on Oct. 27, 1936, in Anna, the son of  Elmer L. and Helen R. Roberts Hubbs.

He married Marcia L. Eggena on July 21, 1962, in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Kelly W. (Cheri Ann) Hubbs of Norfolk, Va., Brian F. (Anabella) Hubbs of Chesapeake, Va., and Scott L. Hubbs of Pekin; five grandchildren, Kyle Franklin Hubbs, Stephanie Anne Hubbs, Alyssa Nicole Hubbs, Connor Matthew Hubbs, all of Chesapeake, Va., and Brenna Renee’ Hubbs of Cuba; one brother, James L. (Polly) Hubbs of St. Charles; and one sister, Beverly J (Allen) Matz of Homosassa, Fla. 

He also is survived by a brother-in-law, Roger (Madge) Eggena of Statesville, N.C.

His parents preceded him in death.

He was a Korean War Army veteran.

Mr. Hubbs worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 30 years, retiring in 1994 from Building KK in East Peoria as a machinist. 

He then worked as a school bus driver for Tazewell/Woodford Head Start for more than 12 years.

He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 974 and a former member of Pekin Moose Family Center 916.

He liked to work in his yard and he liked woodworking. 

He was a longtime fan of the Green Bay Packers and the St. Louis Cardinals.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin. 

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Mark A. Miller and Rev. Glenn R.A. Niemann officiated.  Burial was in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
