A-J boy's roll to victory over Massac
After a three-game losing streak, the Anna-Jonesboro High School boy’s basketball team tried a different approach.
“It was just a case of overcoaching the last three games,” A-J coach Rob Wright said. “We told them to go out and play a lot looser and just play ball.”
With the new approach, A-J rolled to a 66-50 win over visiting Massac County Saturday night, Dec. 19.
The Wildcats held a 15-7 first quarter lead and were ahead 29-18 at the half. A-J led 47-32 headed into the final period.
J.R. Woodward led the way with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Brady Wright had 19 points and 6 rebounds. Jordan Adams added 11 points and 2 rebounds. Jacob Brimm had 10 points and a rebound. Cody Livesay had 3 points. Gabe Pecord had 2 points and 4 rebounds. Tylor Duckworth had a point and 5 rebounds.
The Wildcats were 16 of 31 in shot attempts from the floor, 7 of 21 from 3-point range and 13 of 22 from the free throw line.
“We had a pretty good game plan and we shot pretty well,” Wright said.
The Patriots were 13 of 24 in shot attempts from the field, 7 of 16 from 3-point range and 3 of 6 from the charity stripe.
A-J, which improved to 5-4, is scheduled to play Saturday in the Eldorado Holiday Tournament.
