A-JCHS senior Elizabeth Bell again Academic All-American

For performances during her junior year, USA Swimming has again conferred Scholastic All-American status to Anna-Jonesboro Community High School senior Elizabeth Bell.

Athletically, those honored must reach a time standard in at least one stroke that places them within the top 1 percent of high school swimmers. Bell exceeded the mark at the August Junior National Championship when she qualified in the 50 and 100 meters freestyle and the 100 meters butterfly.

Academically, students must attain a minimum 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Bell received a special commendation for having earned the highest GPA possible.

Girls’ IHSA sectionals will be contested at 16 sites throughout Illinois Nov. 14. A-J has been assigned to the Springfield sectional.

More than 300 competitors will vie to advance to the Nov. 20-21 New Trier-hosted finals. In 2009, only eight girls managed to qualify from Springfield.

Bell is training hard to make her final effort at Springfield one that will end with A-J finishing with respect at New Trier.
