Jerry “J.D.” Carter

<p class="p1">Jerry “J.D.” Carter, 80, of Mt. Pleasant, died at 4:50 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, at his home, with his family by his side.</p><p class="p1">He was born on Oct. 26, 1935, in Manteno, the son of Dennis Franklin and Neva Dora Earnhart Carter. </p><p class="p1">He married Betty Jo Osman on Nov. 12, 1954.</p><p class="p1">He worked for over 50 years on farm machinery. He was known and respected by many farmers in Union and Johnson counties for his knowledge of farm equipment repair. </p><p class="p1">He enjoyed trapshooting and was a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association. He was extremely proud of breaking 100 straight targets several years at the Grand American in Vandalia, Ohio. </p><p class="p1">Most of all though, he loved his family and family gatherings. He was baptized in the Baptist church.</p><p class="p1">Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Betty Carter; a daughter, Beverly (Robert) Bolanowski of Anna; a granddaughter, Amanda (Matthew) Endrizzi of Vienna; a sister, Lois Benson (Robert Kraatz) of Anna; a dear friend, Barbara Adams of Anna; nieces and nephews, including Matthew Benson of Brooklyn, New York, and Mark (Tina) Benson of Chicago; a brother-in-law, Billy Osman of Cairo, and other relatives. </p><p class="p1">Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law August Benson, Jimmie Osman and Olen Osman. </p><p class="p1">Services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Crain Funeral Home, Anna-Jonesboro, with the Rev. Jay Franklin officiating.
