Jonathan Cauble of Dongola made a startling discovery this summer while attending the Aviation Camp at SIU: the new Shawnee Community College associate degree in Aviation Science. Cauble quickly became the first student to enroll in the SCC program and was awarded an aviation scholarship provided by the SCC board of trustees. "The camp was an awesome experience. I participated in experiments, worked with different aviation equipment and even took my first plane ride. The aviation scholarship and the Summer Wings camp have opened a new world to me." Cauble plans to pursuit a career as an air traffic controller.
Shawnee Community College will host an Aviation Science program informational meeting on Tuesday, August 11, at 5:30 p.m. at the SCC Anna Extension Center. This meeting is designed to introduce students and the parents to the program. For more information, contact Jean Ellen Boyd, SCC dean of instructional services at 618-634-3240.
