Kiwanis Club helps young people

To the editor,

Fifty-six years ago, a Kiwanis Club was chartered in Anna to assist the community in serving the youth of Union County.

Today, the club stands strong in purpose and still serving their constituents.

Many prominent people of the community have served as members and provided much needed guidance and financial assistance to many children of Union County.

By financial, I mean raising funds through various means such as selling brooms, snow cones, etc.

Of course, one of the biggest fundraisers of late has been the barbecue.

We have a total of four cooks a year. Those cooks are on Thanksgiving, Mother's Day, Presidents' Day and the fair in August.

It has become a tradition at the Union County Fair in August to feed a number of people during the week, which brings me to the purpose of writing this letter.

The Kiwanis Club of Anna has donated since the fair of 2008 to the fair of 2009, a total of $10,000 to the region of Union County and its youth.

We are proud to serve you and want to "thank you" for the barbecue meat you have purchased from us.

Every time you buy barbecue from us, you are investing in our local youth. We salute you.

The next barbecue cook will be Nov. 21-22 at the Kiwanis stand. If you are need of meat for Thanksgiving, please call 833-8492.
