Local events of note

We had an opportunity to cover several special, but totally unrelated, events during the past week.  In our view, each of the events reflected the wide range of activities which are so important in the life of our community.

Last Friday morning, the FFA chapter at Shawnee High School at Wolf Lake hosted a livestock and equipment day. The role of FFA is important to areas like Union County because the organization helps to promote the role of agriculture in the life of the community.

Saturday, the PAST organization of Union County hosted a flea market at Anna-Jonesboro Community High School. The members of PAST work hard to help to preserve and promote our community's rich heritage.

Also on Saturday, a ceremony was held to dedicate the Tom Davis Clubhouse at Davis Farms near Ware. Several hundred people were on hand to honor the memory of a man who made many contributions to the community.

On Monday, the Cobden Lions Club hosted the first of what is planned to be a series of Coffee Club events. The Lions Club plans to have the Coffee Clubs once a month as a way to give community members a chance to just get together and share some fellowship.

The various events we've mentioned here may not seem all that significant, but they show the many activities which, when woven together, create a unique fabric of life here in Union County.
