Midwest experienced second warmest fall season on record

<p class="p1">Warm conditions blanketed the Midwest during the 2015 fall season, bringing near-record seasonal and monthly temperatures, according to the Midwestern Regional Climate Center at the Illinois State Water Survey in Champaign.</p><p class="p1">The fall season included the months of September, October and November. </p><p class="p1">The Midwest experienced its second warmest fall season on record, according to preliminary data.</p><p class="p1">The data included data for records kept from 1895 to 2015.</p><p class="p1">Eight of the nine states in the region had one of their top five warmest fall seasons. Kentucky also ranked in the top 10 percent.</p><p class="p1">The individual fall months ended in significant records as well. </p><p class="p1">September was the third warmest September on record for the Midwest, with six of the nine states in the region ranked among the top 10 warmest Septembers.  </p><p class="p1">Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan all broke their September temperature record.</p><p class="p1">November temperatures for the Midwest also preliminarily ranked as the fifth warmest, with all nine states in the region ranking among the top ten warmest Novembers on record.</p><p class="p1">The winter outlook from the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center called for an increased chance of above-normal temperatures across most of the Midwest. Winter includes December, January and February.</p><p class="p1">The likelihood of warmer-than-normal winter temperatures is higher in the northern Midwest states.</p><p class="p1">The Midwestern Regional Climate Center is a cooperative program of the Illinois State Water Survey (Prairie Research Institute, University of Illinois) and the National Climatic Data Center (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce).</p><p class="p2"> </p><p class="p2"> </p>
