Movies have changed

I thought I had seen it all when I watched the recent Hollywood production of the movie, "Noah."

Besides creating their own exaggerated version of the Biblical story, I believe they went just a little bit overboard when they had modern day transformers building the arc. Really!

Some people might like this depiction, and I'm okay with that. Everybody has different tastes and the old saying applies here: whatever floats your boat.

But this year, that fantasy world has taken somewhat of a backseat. Hollywood has been producing some very good movies that were actual events in our past history.

One in particular stands out and is the movie "Unbroken." I couldn't put down the book when I started reading it and the movie was just about as interesting.

The true story is really very enjoyable and is about an American World War II prisoner of war held in Japan, who was a former Olympic runner. He survived despite unbelievable hardships.

After that came the movie "Fury," an American tank crew fighting at the end of World War II. An interesting story and a far cry from the recent fictional World War II flick Brad Pitt was involved in.

The "American Sniper" is by far the best movie I've seen in years. I even thought about sending a letter of congratulations to director/actor Clint Eastwood on his portrayal of the character, who I believe surpassed any other movie he has been involved in.

The movie "Imitation Games" is another thriller that was kept hushed up for 50 years after World War II. The invincible Germans felt their code could never be broken. However, it was and the code breakers didn't reveal it had been cracked, knocking years off the war as well as saving a good number of Allies' lives.

Those transformer and super hero movies might get top billings for some crowds, but I'll take those movies based on actual events over them anytime.

The year has started off quite well with the release of these fact-based movies. It's my hope they continue with a lot more of these realistic shows than the fantasy world of make believe.
