A new school year

A new school year is underway in Union County. As the 2010-2011 academic year gets underway, Union County schools face what just might be unprecedented financial challenges.

These challenges will force those who oversee the operations of our public schools to be creative, and conservative, with their resources.

As the new year begins, we would like to offer a word of encouragement to the students, teachers, support staff, administrators and boards of education at each of the schools in Union County. Many of those in the community support what you are doing, even under the most trying of circumstances.

Parents, please do your best to show your own support for our schools.

Hopefully, at some point in the not-too-distant future, the folks in Springfield take the initiative and fix a problem which has been allowed to fester for far too long.

In the meantime, we hope that the 2010-2011 academic year will be a good one at Union County schools.
