Annabelle Festival scheduled
The sixth annual Annabelle Festival is planned Friday and Saturday, June 7-8, in the downtown Anna area.
The festival celebrates the Annabelle hydrangea, which was discovered in Union County.
Organizers say that this year’s festival will be offering some new events.
Festival Begins Friday Evening
The festival is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Friday, June 7, with the Curt’s Classic Car Show on West Davie Street.
The Anna Arts Center plans to have painting activities for kids, an art competition and exhibit, and a flower show featuring the creative use of Annabelle hydrangeas in arrangements.
Vendors will be set up on East Davie Street. A children’s area is planned in the parking lot at the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church. The parking lot is located along South Main Street.
Across the street from the children’s area, the Anna Moose Lodge plans to have an outdoor event featuring live musical entertainment.
Annabelle Festival activities are scheduled at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Festivities are scheduled to continue until 9 p.m.
Vendors are scheduled to be open at 8 a.m.
In honor of National Garden Week, the Anna-Jo Garden Club will be selling Annabelle hydrangeas.
Garden club members have propagated Annabelle hydrangeas in their own gardens.
The Anna Moose Lodge plans to host a motorcycle show. Registration for the show is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Information about the show is available by contacting the Moose Lodge.
The children’s area is scheduled to be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Chris Egelston is scheduled to present his magic show at noon in the children’s area.
At 1 p.m., a birds of prey demonstration is scheduled to be presented in the children’s area by Free Again wildlife rehabilitator Bev Shofstall.
Local firefighters and EMTs are scheduled to be in the children’s area to give tours of a fire truck and ambulance. The Union County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit also may make an appearance.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Al and Jean Brown are scheduled to play music on East Davie Street.
A Smokey Bear poster contest is planned from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Anna Arts Center.
An opera scenes performance is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the arts center. The performances feature participants in the arts center’s young artist program.
The first Little Miss Annabelle pageant is planned from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on East Davie Street.
The local band Southern Comfort is scheduled to perform from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on East Davie Street.
