Honor society induction held at Shawnee

Alpha Lambda Epsilon Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa had its fall induction on Wednesday evening, Oct. 17, at Shawnee Community College near Ullin.

Members were inducted to the honor society by invitation,  based on the students having 12 hours of class, with at least a 3.5 grade point average in those classes. 

This year marks the 100-year celebration of Phi Theta Kappa’s existence as the honor society of two-year colleges. 

Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society for two-year colleges.  

Shawnee Community College instructor Craig Bradley serves as Alpha Lambda Epsilon Chapter’s sponsor.  

Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education, with more than 1.5 million members and 1,200 chapters located in the 50 United States, U.S. territories, Canada and Germany.

Phi Theta Kappa offers a wide range of programs, services and membership benefits.

Co-curricular programs focus on the society’s hallmark of scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship. It is estimated that 200,000 students participate in Phi Theta Kappa programs each year.

Annually, more than 90,000 students worldwide are inducted into Phi Theta Kappa. 

To be eligible for membership a student must complete a minimum of 12 hours of associate degree course work and earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. 

Students must maintain a high academic standing throughout their enrollment at Shawnee Community College.
