Pageant seeks contestants

Union County Fair Queen, Little Miss, Junior Miss Fair Queen

Contestants are being sought for the 2017 Union County Fair Queen, Little Miss and Junior Miss Fair Queen pageant.

The pageant is set for 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, at the fair, which will be at the Anna City Park in Anna.

Union County Fair Queen Pageant

Pageant organizers said that contestants for county fair queen must be 16 years of age by Aug. 20, 2017, and not have reached their 22nd birthday by Jan. 1, 2018.

Contestants must have never been married, have never had a child and cannot be an adoptive parent. 

Contestants must be a resident of Union County or have attended or graduated from a Union County school, and are not competing in another county fair queen pageant in 2017, or have been a former queen of county fair. 

Contestants will be interviewed by a panel of judges. 

Contestants will appear in casual attire, a one-piece swimsuit, and an evening gown, and will give a one minute speech and will answer an on-stage question.

Applications are available now from superintendent Mike Meisenheimer at his office at Country Financial Insurance in Jonesboro; by calling or texting Janice Osman at 618-833-7777 and requesting an application; or by going online to www.unioncountyfair.net, going to the Miss Union County Fair tab and downloading the application from there. 

A schedule of practice days and times appear with the application.

Each contestant will require a sponsor. The deadline to enter the pageant is Aug. 6. No late entries will be accepted after Aug. 6.

A meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at the Union County Fair Board office. The office is located at the Anna City Park. 

Applications and entry/sponsor fees can be turned in at the meeting. 

Also, contestants are asked to come “picture ready.” Tiffany Dillow Photography will be taking a group photo for local papers, and head shots for the pageant program and judges’ books.

Little Miss, Junior Miss Fair Queen

Little Miss contestants must be 10-12 years of age, and Junior Miss contestants must be 13-15 years of age by Aug. 20, 2017.

Contestants must be a resident of Union County and attend a Union County school. 

If contestants attend a private school outside of Union County, they must provide proof of registration with their application.
