Solar eclipse focus of event in Carbondale

A free program about solar eclipses is planned Thursday, Aug. 11, in Carbondale.

The program is set for 7 p.m. at 216 E. Monroe (look for the green door, off the alley), across from Rockhill Baptist Church.

Free parking is available off Monroe Street, between Washington and Marion streets.

The program is scheduled to be presented by Harry Treece, president of the Astronomical Association of Southern Illinois.

Solar eclipses will be discussed, along with why a 2017 eclipse in particular will present a unique opportunity for research.

The event is sponsored by the Shawnee Group of the Sierra Club. For more information, call Ruth Kelley at 618-684-2196.
