Company announces plans for barge fleeting operations

<p class="p1">American River Transportation Company, ARTCO, a subsidiary of Archer Daniels Midland Company, on Nov. 3 announced plans to launch new barge fleeting and switching operations in the Cairo harbor starting Jan. 1, 2016.</p><p class="p1">In announcing the plans, the company noted in a news release that the Cairo harbor is a vital hub in the inland waterway supply chain. </p><p class="p1">The new operation will be based in Wickliffe, Kentucky, and will provide fleeting and switching operations from mile 948 on the Lower Mississippi River to mile 29 on the Upper Mississippi and mile 974 on the Ohio River.</p><p class="p1">“ARTCO is the only company in the inland waterway system that can provide a self-contained supply chain to our customers, which allows us to provide better, more efficient and cost-effective service,” said Jason Porter, vice president, ARTCO operations. </p><p class="p1">“This new location provides strategic access to the Lower Mississippi, Upper Mississippi and Ohio Rivers and will allow ARTCO to directly provide a complete range of services in the Cairo market without relying on any third-party support, giving our customers a truly one-stop solution to meet their worldwide transportation demands.”</p><p class="p1">ADM operates an agricultural transportation network with a global network of assets, including boats and barges, stevedoring cranes, oceangoing vessels, railcars and trucks. </p><p class="p1">The company offers a range of third-party logistics solutions to customers around the globe, from designing systems to freight transportation.</p><p class="p1">ARTCO plans to begin the staffing process for the location immediately and is seeking individuals interested in joining the new team. </p><p class="p1">Those who may want to apply for a position are advised to visit www.adm.com/careers and search for positions in Wickliffe, Kentucky.</p><p class="p1"> </p>
