Local man sustains fatal injuries in accident
A Union County man sustained fatal injuries while he was cutting wood at his residence Sunday afternoon, June 28.
Union County Sheriff David Livesay identified the victim as Stephen Wills, 57, of Cobden.
Livesay reported that about 3:15 p.m. Sunday, the Union County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call from a rural Cobden residence.
Emergency services personnel arrived on the scene and found that Mr. Wills had been in an accident involving a chainsaw.
He was cutting wood at his residence when the accident happened.
“It appeared Mr. Wills possibly slipped and fell on the chainsaw, causing a severe laceration and fatally injuring himself,” Livesay said.
The sheriff said Mr. Wills subsequently was pronounced dead at Union County Hospital in Anna.
Foul play is not suspected, the sheriff said. The sheriff’s office and the Union County coroner are investigating the accident.
